I'm having more fun now that we're done....

It sure has been a weird couple of weeks. They say bad things come in threes and this bout seemed to cause funerals. First my friend Pat's dad passed away after an 18 month battle with cancer. Then my supervisor's mother passed away after being diagnosed even though she had been getting increasingly more ill over the past few months. Then last weekend one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met lost her four and a half year battle with cancer. She is the sister-in-law of our assistant pastor, yet I met her more as a patient coming in for treatment. She endured 4 bone marrow transplants. She did live long enough to see her youngest son get married this past summer, and her smile never once wavered throughout all of her treatments. We went up to the viewing as I was not able to procure the time to make it to her funeral, and have never seen so many people at just a viewing. It truly is a testament to just how many people she touched in her lifetime. I can only hope to have a small detail of that affect on people. We are truly at a loss to not have her with us anymore.

Tragically, it does seem to be the way things are going of late. The week before I lost my dad, my co-worker lost his mother. Then the week, after my cousins lost their grandfather. Sad truth of getting older is that you begin to lose those around you with greater frequency. The test which this inevitability provides us is to not dwell on the loss, but learn to appreciate the people with whom we hold special bonds.

As to the detail of your affect on others, I can attest that your regard and positive influence are felt deeper than you may yet know. Remember... You Rock!
