I am one of those people who has a varied field of interests, especially when it comes to my reading choices. There is a wide range of books that I enjoy even though I tend to fall back to the same old categories when I just rush into the library to grab a book or ten. The days when I have an extended period of time to peruse the shelves leads to me walking out with my arms full of a wide assortment of genres. Take my current haul, for example:
6Th Target by James Patterson- because I love his Alex Cross Series (can't wait til Christmas! Thanks in advance Mom!) and the Women's Murder Club.
The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama- I am curious as to what he has to say about himself.
If Democrats had any brains, they'd be Republicans by Ann Coulter- I am curious as to why people complain about her all the time so I figured that I would see for myself since I consider myself most decidedly independent.
Lean Six Sigma demystified by Jay Arthur- for reasons that I can't explain except that I feel that the understanding would benefit me at work.
Things I overheard while talking to myself by Alan Alda- Because I loved his first book and figured I would enjoy this one as well. So far I have! :)
The year of living biblically: one man's humble quest to follow the Bible as literally as possible by AJ Jacobs- Because who doesn't need help in their daily life. Maybe this would help give me that little jump start I've been needing lately since I am so much more open to absorbing things now that I feel better again!
Brothers: The hidden history of the Kennedy Years by David Talbot- because I am just beyond fascinated by the Kennedy's- John in particular.
Just Jackie by Edward Klein- again because the Kennedy's fascinate me. This book starts the day after JFK's funeral.
And this book is the cause of my musings today. Just Jackie is approximately 10 years old- old enough in library life to still have the "Due Date" sheet inside the front cover. What made this book even more fascinating to me is that this one also had a mailed reminder tucked between the paper cover and the hard cover of the book telling that patron the due date or late reminder- I obviously didn't pay that much attention to it.
What really struck me though is that you can see the due dates for when a book was to be returned but you had no idea about who the patron was. Much like an organ or tissue donor- the recipient can know no information about the donor unless both parties agree to it and wait a period of time. But I held in my hand a notification to a lady that lived in Ypsi. I have always wondered what made someone else pick up a particular books. Is it a topic that they are interested it or is it just because the cover looked interesting?
Perhaps this makes me weird, but I have always wondered who has gone before me or what is going on in the heads of those that pass all around me in life. That fact is hammered home every time I walk down the hallway at work and the many hundreds of people that I see in a given day- some of whom have been given devastating news such as that their spouse of decades will now being going to hospice care and others that receive joyful news that today was their last day of treatment or that they have been in remission for ______ years, ______ months, and _______ days.
I just find it amazing that there all of these very complex lives being played out sometimes right in front of our faces but yet we can't get past our own to notice these.
