Yesterday I was asked where I want to be in ten years. As I was doling out the answer, I realized that I am fairly easy to please. While what I want out of life may not seem extraordinary to some, they are far from mundane and yet would keep me quite happy. It's funny how some people can't even bother to figure that out. Best part of it all, is that certain others seem to want the same thing. :)
Mom is also doing quite well in her recovery endeavors. She is now 19 days post-surgery and has not used her walker (at least that I am aware of) in about a week and a half. Hell, on Saturday she was out in her garden, yet claims she was merely "looking"... On the plus side (at least in my dad's opinion) she now has a watering can and thus the gravy boat has miraculously reappeared in the cupboard.
I have been reading an article lately that really hit home for me and I don't know why. This article tells of the steps undertaken to bring home a fallen soldier. Perhaps it was due to it being Memorial Day weekend, perhaps it's knowing that one of my friends just re-enlisted in the Marines because he wants to go back over there, perhaps it's the fact that my cousin is going back as a civilian contractor, perhaps it's that I have other friends and family members over there that it really struck a nerve. I found this quite touching.
Over the course of this past weekend I went to the library (and finally paid most of my lovely overdue fines) wherein I made a lady laugh. I had looked at the new books downstairs and was headed upstairs. As I ascended the staircase, I was matching a lady step-for step. She already looked like she was having a bad day, but she did notice that we were going at the same pace. About halfway up I asked her if she wanted to race and she said sure. We both took off running up the rest of the stairs and tied... giggling the whole way. when we got to the top, she just looked at me and said "you know, that's just what I needed."
Amazing how big the little things really can be. :)
